All I could think of was not to let my husband come near me because he’d been touching a sick bowl whilst someone had vomited into it. I feared that he might be infected with a bug and therefore he might infect me. I hardly ate at all that night. I felt awful and miserable. Bugs seemed to be everywhere. I was convinced I was coming down with something and didn’t get any sleep. I stayed awake most of the night, watching the stars and frantically working my way through a puzzle book to keep my mind off how my stomach was feeling.

The sufferer had to state repeatedly why she was so scared and why she did not want treatment. When the staff finally understood, the sufferer was offered the chance of anti-emetic medication and it took over three weeks of deliberation before she accepted that this would be what she would have to do if she wanted to live. And she did want to live, just not in that way. She underwent a radical mastectomy which left her with a lot of scarring. Her lymph nodes were also removed for testing. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy and took her anti-sickness pills.
